The new AussieTheatre: One year on

I sat down at my desk today and it suddenly occurred to me that I have been Editor in Chief of AussieTheatre.com for just over 12 months – and to use a cliché, I simply cannot believe how fast the time has flown by.

On July 1 2011, my co-director Matt Edwards and I officially took over AussieTheatre from founder Troy Dodds and in that time have put a lot of changes in place. In what has largely been a labour of love, we have introduced a complete redesign and rebranding strategy, a weekly newsletter and a focus on producing content which is informative, timely and relevant to the industry I love. These changes (and many others) have seen AussieTheatre grow in a way neither of us could have imagined.

We wanted the site to become a hub of information both for the industry and about the industry, and with the unflinching support of my team (boasting more than 30 dedicated writers and reviewers Australia wide), I believe we are well on the way to achieving this goal.

Because we LOVE graphs, we have been gathering comprehensive analytical data on our content which has shows that our readership has increased from 7000 unique vistors per month to over 35 000 per month. This equates to more than 60 000 visits to the site monthly. Myself, Matt and our wonderful team have worked hard to ensure we are bringing the Australian (and often international) theatre community news and information every day.

Matt’s new website and logo design has made a huge difference in the way the site has operated over the last 6 months, and the next 12 months will see more changes at AussieTheatre. We have plenty of exciting projects in the pipeline – some of which will be revealed very soon.

I would like to thank each and every person who has contributed to the success of this site over the last 12 months: the artists, the arts organisations, our wonderful team of contributors and the readers who make our job here so enjoyable.

If I wasn’t taking part in Dry July this year, I’d raise a glass to you all – but until the wine flows freely in my world again, I will be content to simply say Thank You. I’m a very lucky girl.
