‘Beyond Kinky’, Kinky Boots Australia beyondblue fundraiser this Sunday in Sydney

The Australia cast of Kinky Boots will be performing a one night only concert entitled Beyond Kinky to raise money for beyondblue. The night will take place at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre this Sunday 18th June.

Beyond KinkyBeyond Kinky is a one-off opportunity for Sydney-siders to see this incredibly talented cast pay homage to the divas of pop in their own unique way. The concert will feature music from iconic women such as Madonna, Whitney, Beyoncé, Celine Dion and many more.

Taking the reigns on this glorious project are cast members Teagan Wouters (Addams Family, Legally Blonde, Songs For A New World) and Anthony Harkin (Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages, Sound of Music) with the help of super swings Bronte Florian (Baby, Company) and Daniel Downing (Priscilla NCL, Wicked).

We asked Teagan and Anthony to give us a quick summary of what Beyond Kinky is all about.

What is Beyond Kinky all about, and what can we expect to see on the night?

Teagan – “It’s a great opportunity to see the wonderfully talented cast step outside the musical theatre genre and pay homage to the women who paved the way in the music industry, like our show’s brilliant composer Cyndi Lauper. You’ll get to see the Kinky Boots cast do incredible things they don’t get to do every night. It’s going to be unbelievable fun.”

Anthony – “This cast is insanely talented, they can do a lot of different things. They have a lot of depth and they do things you wouldn’t normally see casts do. People aren’t just getting up and doing party pieces, they’re songs they’ve never done before in most cases. Everyone is so gifted. There’s people in the cast playing instruments live, there’s people who have created their own arrangements, there’s people choreographing big group numbers, it’s insane.”

Why did Kinky Boots choose beyondblue as your charity?

Teagan – “beyondblue is an amazing organisation doing such incredible work in supporting and educating Australians on mental health. It’s an important cause, and they absolutely deserve the money we raise on the night.”

Anthony – “In our industry, depression, anxiety and suicide are really prevalent. It’s something that’s close to a lot of us. I think you could go through our whole cast and someone has probably been affected or knows someone who’s been affected by it, and unfortunately, I think it’s going to get worse and worse in this modern society. It’s really important to all of us at the show to throw out some support and awareness, and try to raise some spirits along the way.”

Beyond Kinky follows the success of Beyond Miserables, also produced by Michael Cassel Group during its runs of Les Miserables, which raised $90,000. In partnership with Kinky Boots, beyondblue created the ‘Just Be’ campaign to help share the musical’s central message of diversity and acceptance with the wider community
