Diamonds Are For Trevor – Trevor Ashley at the State Theatre for one night only

Diamonds are for Trevor
Trevor Ashley in Diamonds Are For Trevor

Next Friday, March 2nd, the irrepressible Trevor Ashley will be bringing Diamonds are for Trevor, his dazzling tribute to the one and only Dame Shirley Bassey herself to Sydney’s State Theatre.

In a spectacular two-act concert, Ashley will perform over eighteen of Bassey’s hits including Big Spender, Goldfinger, History Repeating, and Diamonds are Forever – and maybe a few songs the Dame has never got around to recording.

Trevor Ashley, a cabaret and musical theatre legend that has headlined some of Australia’s biggest shows (Hairspray, Priscilla) will delight you with his Shirley Bassey show featuring big gowns (he’ll be dressed by Oscar, BAFTA, Olivier and Tony award-winning costume designer Tim Chappel), big hair, and an even bigger voice that the Sydney Morning Herald has called “an uncanny likeness” to that of one of the world’s best-loved Dames.

Joined by a fourteen piece orchestra conducted by Daniel Edmonds, Ashley will take the audience on a tour of Bassey’s iconic life, complete with feathers, flash, and frequent diva tantrums. Hilarious, brilliant, and often moving, when Trevor Ashley goes head to head with Dame Shirley Bassey, you might end up agreeing that diamonds really are for Trevor.

  • What a sensational start to mardi gras what talent? My late mum Judy Robertson  was amoungst the first of entertainers  in Sydney Television and i brought tickets at Her Magesty Theatre for Mothers Day the week Shirleys daughter died.I will never forget it when Mum said to me upon the first two choruses of Shirley singing that the show would be cancelled. I said Mum dont be ridicilious we have just got here.Sure enough the show was cancelled.Trevor indeed brought that night back at the Magnifent State theatre last Friday night as if everything was repeated.
Trevor I told you 10 years ago at Dawns Hotel at Newtown you had the presious gift. You are indeed quick whitted without smut.Once again thankyou for a great Mardi Gras.
