The podcast, entitled Ticket A42, will be hosted by O’Hara and feature candid and fun interviews with members of the Australian theatre industry on a monthly basis, giving a new insight into the life of our performers, what they are working on and what makes them tick!

Speaking for herself and her co-director Matt Edwards, AussieTheatre’s Editor Erin James says the moment was right for the website to take a new direction and produce the podcast after working on the idea for several years.

“Matt and I took over management of AussieTheatre in July 2011, and since then have been striving to produce interesting, varied, relevant and informative content across many platforms. For nearly as long as we have been working on the site, we have wanted to produce an industry related podcast and today we can finally realise that goal”, James said this morning.

The idea for the podcast gained traction after John O’Hara wrote a heartfelt status update on Facebook several months ago, which was subsequently published on AussieTheatre, receiving an incredible amount of traffic and ranking in the top 30 articles each month since its publication.

The blog detailed O’Hara’s experience sitting in seat A42 at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre many years ago, and sparked discussion between O’Hara and the AussieTheatre team.

“John is a long standing friend of Matt and myself, and we are thrilled to be working closely with him to bring our readers, subscribers and now listeners a new perspective on the industry we love so dearly”, said James.

O’Hara, who has performed leading roles in some of Australia’s biggest commercial musicals over the last decade is equally as excited to be putting his radio broadcast skills to work in this new collaboration.

“It’s always been a pipe dream of mine to have my own radio show and due to a few serendipitous events including wine, Facebook and good friends I’m so excited to have collaborated with AussieTheatre.com on this project”, O’Hara said this morning.

“The monthly podcast is a fun, relaxed and informative way to get to know each of my guests a little better. I hope you all enjoy the sit downs as much as I am enjoying recording them; there are lots of laughs, a few full disclosures and some beautiful memories. I have some wonderful guests lined up over the next couple of months so stay tuned to AussieTheatre.com for details.”

Kicking things off in style, O’Hara’s first guest is his current colleague and long standing friend Lucy Durack. O’Hara and Durack are set to open the Sydney season of WICKED’s 10th Anniversary Production at Sydney’s The Capitol Theatre tonight.

“Durack was the obvious choice as my first guest on TicketA42”, O’Hara said today. “She’s funny, warm, open, intelligent, quirky and everyone loves her, myself included.”

The TicketA42 team have created an innovative and fun way for listeners to listen and then view details regarding the topics discussed on the podcast in the form of show notes.
