The premiere of Ghost the Musical Australia is still over 12 months away, but thanks to the wonders of the internet, Australian audiences are one step closer to seeing the production live with an exclusive screening of the Broadway launch dubbed ‘The Ghost Light Sessions’ via the musical’s Facebook page tomorrow.

Filmed live last week at New York’s historic Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (Ghost’s home on Broadway), The Ghost Light Sessions will be streamed on Wednesday January 25 at 8:30am, 1:00pm and 8:30pm AEDT (Melbourne and Sydney time) as a sneak peek of the upcoming show.

Facebook users around the world will have exclusive access the screenings of this very special Broadway event, where the cast and creative team talk about bringing this highly anticipated new musical to Broadway.

Each of the three screenings will be available for a one-time-only viewing through a special tab on the Ghost The Musical Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/GhostBroadway. Fans will also be able to engage in an interactive discussion with one another by posting comments directly beneath the video as they watch.

Facebook has played a huge part in the promotional campaign for Ghost The Musicalsince it opened on the West End in 2011. The Broadway production is following a similar pattern for marketing and promotion, so it can be assumed that a similar road may be taken for the upcoming Australian production, which is set to begin casting in the 2nd half of 2012.

It is understood that although the original West End principal cast (Cassie Levy and Richard Fleeshman) will transfer to Broadway, the Australian production will endeavour to use local talent for the premiere at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre in August 2013. In an interview at the Ghost The Musical launch last year, Australian Producer Louise Withers stated that the first port of call for casting will be Australian performers, but the creative team will look overseas for talent if the need arises.

Ghost The Musical is directed by Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus (God of Carnage, The Norman Conquests, Boeing-Boeing) and choreographed by UK based Australian, Ashley Wallen (The X Factor, Kylie Minogue). Created by a team of Grammy and Academy Award winners, and features a brand new, original score by Dave Stewart (half of the multi-Grammy Award winning Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror, Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill).

Screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost, Jacob’s Ladder, The Time Traveler’s Wife) has adapted his Academy Award winning original screenplay for the stage with a musical score including the song ‘Unchained Melody’ which is famously associated with the film’s pottery scene.

Featuring ground-breaking technology and spectacular illusions by Paul Kieve, Ghost The Musical has to be seen to be believed. So make sure you catch the Ghost Light Sessions tomorrow on Facebook… do you believe?

  • The fb page just posted “Less than an hour away until our final screening of The Ghost Light Sessions”! I think you posted the times wrong, because 9pm in NYC is 12pm here.
