Hayes Theatre Co set to make a Miracle

“Funny, moving and thought-provoking, with beautiful music and a razor-sharp scrip – it’s exactly the sort of musical Hayes Theatre Co was created to showcase” – Lisa Campbell.

In a few short months, the Hayes Theatre Co have already become one of the biggest players in the Sydney musical theatre scene, delivering knock-out performances, cleverly programmed and curated works and a mission to give life (and a home) to small scale music theatre at their intimate venue on Greenknowe Avenue.

Today’s announcement that Lisa Campbell and the gang at Luckiest Productions have assembled an incredible creative team for their next musical at Hayes Theatre Co, which is set to open in October, simply solidifies their position.

Max Lambert and the late Nick Enright’s musical Miracle City will be reinvigorated in the Potts Point venue by Director Darren Yap, Choreographer Kelley Abbey and Lambert himself as musical director.

Lambert has most recently worked as musical supervisor on blockbuster musicals King Kong and Strictly Ballroom for Global Creatures while Kelley Abbey is well known to audiences for her work on Fame The Musical, Xanadu: The Musical and as a choreographer for So You Think You Can Dance.

Miracle City had its world premiere at the Sydney Theatre Company in 1996 to huge acclaim, and director Darren Yap (A Murder Is Announced and I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change) is eager for contemporary audiences to see this masterpiece.

“I saw Miracle City in 1996 and I was profoundly inspired by it”, he said.

“As one of the best Australian musicals ever written, it deserves to be seen again by a new generation of audiences.”

Set in real time during a live-to-air American evangelical television show, Miracle City tells the story of the Truswells, a family with a dream to build a religious theme park, and the extreme lengths the patriarch Ricky Truswell will go to in order to make their dream a reality.

The show will be produced by Richard Carroll, Lisa Campbell and David Campbell at Luckiest Productions, in association with Hayes Theatre Co. Luckiest Productions were co-producers of the sell-out production of Sweet Charity, starring Verity Hunt-Ballard and Martin Crewes which opened Hayes Theatre Co in February 2014.

Casting for the production will be announced at a later date. Tickets go on sale Monday July 14.

Productions at this intimate venue are selling out before seasons are complete. To avoid disappointment, join the Hayes Theatre Co mailing list to be the first to secure seats!
