Marika’s series entitled How We Do What We Do will be an honest and personable insight into the working lives of Australian artists, with a special focus on how they have come to be where they are in the Australian arts industry.

Published monthly, these candid chats will be facilitated by Marika (over a cuppa or a bite to eat) and will published verbatim, giving readers a chance to learn about Marika and her lunch dates in a way that is rarely seen in mainstream media articles.

“The idea came to me over a decade ago, when I saw a similar idea in an industry magazine. I used to skip the news and head straight to the interview pieces”, Aubrey said today.

“I felt there was a void in what is published with regards to understanding artists on a deeper level.”

Aubrey approached AussieTheatre recently to help assist in the production of this series and Editor Erin James is thrilled with the result.

“Marika’s idea really grabbed me when she initially approached me about the project”, said James.

“AussieTheatre is an ever-evolving portal for the Australian arts industry, and this new feature format will be completely different to anything we have published on the site in the past.”

Marika will delve into artists’ backgrounds and how they approach projects, and readers will come to learn about both the interviewer and the interviewee simultaneously.

“It’s really a chance for established artists with long and successful careers to honestly examine how they got to where they are, and to share the experience through discussion with another artist”, Aubrey said.

“It’s going to be a lovely opportunity to get to know these people, on their terms.”

Marika Aubrey recently completed a seven month engagement as Head Nurse in Opera Australia’s successful musical South Pacific. She has studied acting and performance in Australia and the United Kingdom, has appeared consistently on stage and screen for the last decade and has performed her solo cabaret show REDHEAD to sell out crowds across the country, including at the acclaimed Adelaide Cabaret Festival in 2010.

Keep your eyes peeled for Marika’s first article on AussieTheatre, in conversation with Eddie Perfect.
