Murphy, Maunder and Harris given Queen’s Birthday honours

Over the long weekend, over 500 Australians were awarded special honours in the Queen’s Birthday Celebrations.

Internationally renowned performer Rolf Harris, Opera singer and acclaimed director Stuart Maunder and director/choreographer Graeme Murphy were among the Australians acknowledged for their work in the Arts.

The Order of Australia has four levels –  the Companion of the Order (AC), Officer of the Order (AO), Member of the Order (AM) and Medal of the Order (OAM).

Rolf Harris, Graeme Murphy and incoming director of the Melbourne Theatre Company Brett Sheehy were named as Officers of the Order (AO), and Stuart Maunder (pictured) was honoured as a Member of the Order (AM).

Rolf Harris AM OBE in London, Britain
For distinguished service to the performing and visual arts, to charitable organisations, and to international relations through the promotion of Australian culture.

Elizabeth May Jones from Williamstown, Vic
For distinguished service to the performing arts as an artistic director, administrator and performer, to the promotion of indigenous playwrights and actors, and to the community.

Piers Lane in London, Britain
For distinguished service to the performing arts as an internationally renowned classical pianist, to professional and cultural organisations, and to the development of emerging musicians.

Graeme Lloyd Murphy AM from Sydney, NSW
For distinguished service to the performing arts, both nationally and internationally, particularly ballet and contemporary dance, as a choreographer and director, and to the enhancement of Australia’s cultural environment.

Brett Joseph Sheehy from Toorak, Vic
For distinguished service to the performing and visual arts as a director of national festivals, to international artistic exchange, and through mentoring roles.

Anthony Francis Shepherd from Kirribilli, NSW
For distinguished service to business, particularly the infrastructure development sector through innovative joint venture partnerships, and to the arts and sporting organisations.

For service to the performing arts as an actor, writer and composer, and as a supporter of aspiring artists.

Terry Ann Bracks from Williamstown, Vic
For service to youth, particularly as the founder of Western Chances, and as a contributor to health, social development and arts organisations in Victoria.

Brett Robin Cottle from Bilgola, NSW
For service to the performing arts, particularly to songwriters, composers and publishers, through executive roles with copyright protection organisations, and to the community.

Jessica Dames from Burra, SA
For service to arts administration in South Australia through the Independent Arts Association, as a supporter of emerging artists and writers, and to the promotion of cultural events.

Robert Joseph Favell from Manunda, Qld
For service to music education in Far North Queensland as a conductor, director and teacher, as a mentor of young musicians, and to the Brass Band movement.
