Attention all Melbourne Musical Theatre and Cabaret Performers: Matthew Robinson’s special new workshop is for you. No, really.

Acclaimed performer and composer Matthew Robinson has been presenting his successful The Singing Actor workshops for several years all over Australia. Testimonials from each and every masterclass continually affirm Robinson’s ability to inspire and equip performers in the art of storytelling through song.

Next month, Melbourne performers have the chance to work with Robinson in his brand new The Melbourne Singing Actor workshop – New Voices. This new workshop will take place over the weekend of June 22-23, giving participants the chance to work with Robinson in an intensive masterclass setting and, thanks to the support of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival, participants are also afforded a platform to be heard in a special one-act performance Upstairs at the Globe Cafe, Chapel Street.

After two days developing the core skills of authentic storytelling through scene and song, each participant will be given a song from Robinson’s catalogue, assigned a half-hour private coaching session, and feature in an intimate one-act showcase which will give two performances (4pm and 7pm) on June 29.

“This is a SPECIAL event for Melbourne”, Robinson told AussieTheatre. “A combination of the two day Singing Actor workshop and a unique performance outcome as part of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival. The aim is to develop skills, give access to my latest work and give voice to unheard musical theatre talent.”

Robinson’s latest musical Atlantis was recently presented in a series of readings in NYC for musical theatre luminaries like Stephen Schwartz, and members of Disney Theatrical Productions and Cameron Mackintosh Ltd. Taking part in this workshop will give Aussie performers a chance to sink their teeth into brand new musical theatre repertoire with the composer in the room, and opportunities like this don’t come along every day!

To apply for the workshop, participants must submit a recording (mp3 or youtube clip) of themselves singing a piece of their choice. Private or public YouTube clips are accepted.

Only sixteen positions are available for this exciting opportunity. To secure your place in the workshop and to ensure your voice is heard, fill in the application form here. Applications close 10 June.
