Queensland Cabaret Festival

We can see heroes as the Queensland Cabaret Festival (June 3-12) swings into winter, showcasing legends and those that pay tribute to them. Launching with a solid round of sold-out shows on opening weekend, Brisbane audiences saw everyone from a pop-culture-princess in An Evening with Molly Ringwood to the extraordinary encore season of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust featuring some of the nations most alluring talent.

But if Brisbane’s squally weekend kept you tucked away from all the fun, there is still plenty of festival festivities to feast your ears on, such as The Simpsons’ Montgomery Burns alternate personality, and Harry Shearer performing This Infernal Racket with real-life love Judith Owen (June 12). The soulful Welsh singer and the comedy writer/actor, team up to take on the voices of politics and the media world.

On June 10 and 11, Sun Rising – The Songs That Made Memphis is a critically acclaimed five-piece band that pays homage to the early rock’n’roll recording artists from Memphis. Hear tales and anecdotes with songs from Elvis Presley to Jerry Lee Lewis and many more.

Friday June 10 Melbourne singer and harpist Alana Conway showcases a collection of Eva Cassidy’s stunning arrangements including ‘Over the Rainbow’, ‘Fields of Gold’ and ‘Autumn Leaves’, but also the story and inspiration behind the posthumously revered artist who died of Melanoma in 1996 just as the world started to listen.

Finally, on Sunday June 12, relax and enjoy one of Brisbane’s most unique creations, the indefinable and utterly irresistible Bertie Page Clinic Glam Cabaret Soiree.
