See Dusty for Free

Sydney theatre audiences have the opportunity to see a musical for free next month when the Australian Institute of Music presents a production of Dusty.

After 253 performances and close to 400,000 audience members having attended the professional verson of the show in Australia a few years ago, the story and music of Dusty Springfield had once again found a place in the hearts the Australian public.

“We are proud that this new production by the Australian Institute of Music will be Dusty’s first production outside the professional arena,” said AIM’s Head of Music Theatre and the show’s director Jennifer Murphy.

This home-grown production was acclaimed and scored three Helpmann Awards, including Best Musical Director for Stephen ‘Spud’ Murphy, Jennifer Murphy’s husband. Spud Murphy has created new arrangements of the show specifically for this new AIM production.

The show features major hits of the era, such as ‘I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself’, ‘Son of a Preacher Man’, ‘I Only Want to Be With You’, ‘Little By Little’, ‘Dancing in the Street’, ‘Wishin’ and Hopin’’ ‘The Look of Love’, ‘Stay Awhile’, ‘Puppet on a String’, ‘Downtown’, ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’ and ‘You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me’.

This production stars Olivia Beardsley (pictured) as Dusty Springfield, the role played by Tamsin Carroll in the professional production.

The show will be presented from September 3-6 at the Australian Institute of Music Concert Venue. Tickets are free and can be booked on (02) 9219 5444.
