STC’s 2012 resolution: A better wining and dining experience

Wine GlassesIn early 2012 the historic Wharf building the Sydney Theatre company calls home will be opening a new bar and dining space, bringing a breath of fresh air into the pre- and post- theatre Walsh Bay experience. The Wharf Restaurant, which has been in operation for ten years, will cease operations on New Year’s Day 2012. Throughout the Sydney Festival a ‘pop-up’ food and drink service will stand in for the restaurant, and then in April an all-new bar (with a name yet to be announced!) will be launched in April 2012.

Walsh Bay is well-established as one of Sydney’s major arts hubs. The Wharf, at pier 4/5, is home to not just the Sydney Theatre Company but also Sydney Dance Company and Bangarra Dance Theatre, and draws in both a crowd of culture consumers and creators on a steady basis.

The new bar’s menu will feature affordable sharing plates pre- and post- show, and a range of meals and snacks throughout the day, which will rejuvenate STC’s building and create an informal, relaxed meeting places for employees in the area, and theatregoers, to meet and catch up.

It’s a needed upgrade, one that will help to create a stronger feeling of community along the Wharf. New dining options and an easy atmosphere with a view of the Harbour Bridge will make a night at the theatre a good night out all over again.
