There’s no place like home: Durack returns to Perth for special concert series

Over the last few years, she has enjoyed enormous success as Glinda – The Good Witch, in the original Australian production of Wicked, but West Australian born music theatre star Lucy Durack, always has time for her home town.

Perth audiences will have the chance to see Durack, and her good friend Matthew Robinson (both WAAPA graduates), in series of concerts which will open this year’s season of Cabaret Soirée – Downstairs at the Maj.

Their latest show, Opening Doors will be playing from June 20-23 (five shows only) marking the duo’s fourth season at The Maj following on from the success of Metro Street (A Sneak Preview A Narrated Concert), Immaculate Confection and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Opening Doors, as with their previous cabaret shows, showcases Robinson’s award winning music, as Durack and he perform songs from his growing catalogue and share some secrets about their life in the business.

Robinson returns from New York after being awarded a 2011 Churchill Fellowship to study musical theatre composition under the mentorship of Stephen Schwartz. Whilst there he won the 2011 UTAS/Stephen Schwartz Songwriting Award for the song ‘Dignity’ from his first musical Metro Street. Metro Street premiered in 2009 and went on to win the South Australian ATG Award for Best Musical and receive five Helpman Award nominations.

Durack and friends will also perform two concerts titled Musicals in Concert at The Perth Concert Hall on Sunday 10 June. With a cast of over 200 Performing Arts Students the concert is sure to include some musical theatre classics and highlights.

And all this before she heads east again, to take on the coveted role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical which opens at the Sydney Lyric, The Star in October.
