World Premiere: The Very Hungry Caterpillar will debut in Australia
It’s your childhood come to life! The Very Hungry Caterpillar is going to eat his way off his book and onto stages all over Australia, debuting at Sydney Festival 2015. He’ll then tour to Melbourne, Brisbane, Penrith, Queanbeyan, and Newcastle.
This is a brand-new, Australian made show all about one of the most popular children’s book ever. He doesn’t look his 45 years at all, and this theatrical experience will be aimed at new readers, first time theatre-goers, and people who have been reading and seeing theatre for a long time.
75 puppets made by New York company Puppet Kitchen (they make puppets for Avenue Q on and off-Broadway and for Sesame Street) will take the stage to tell Eric Carle’s storybook magic. There will be appearances from characters who live in the world of Carle’s other books, Mr Seahorse, The Very Lonely Firefly, and The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse.
It will be like audiences have been transported into a giant pop up book.
“I hope the performances will be enjoyed by many and that the colorful characters will bring comfort and joy to all who see the stories that have been so carefully produced,” said Eric Carle.

A Relaxed performance will be conducted for children with special needs and autism. This modified performance will be on Wednesday 14th January at 3pm and is specifically designed so that all children have the opportunity to experience the show in a safe and relaxed environment.
