Zenith Theatre Goes Cuckoo

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's NestOne Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Dale Wesserman’s adaptation of Ken Kesey’s compelling 1962 novel, will open in Sydney at Chatswood’s Zenith Theatre on November 4.

The now-iconic story, perhaps best known through the Oscar-winning 1975 film directed by Milos Forman and starring Jack Nicholson, is centered on a rebel named McMurphy. Upon entering a mental institution, he brings patients together to take on tyrannical Nurse Ratched. Challenging popular notions of conformity and authority, the tale is thought-provoking and confronting.

Under the direction of Ben Lenzo with Judith Bedard, and presented by epicentre theatre company, the stage adaptation provides an insight into the world of mental illness and treatment as it was in the 1960s – and asks us to consider how far we, as a society, have come. Has anything changed?

Featuring Cheyne Fynn as the Chief, David Owens as Dale Harding, Sam Boneham as Billy Bobbit, Felix Carlyle as Scanlon, Robert Sharpe as Cheswick, David Vilanti as Martini, TBA as Ruckley, David Woodland as McMurphy, Dave Kirkham as Dr Spivey, Suzy Wilds as Nurse Ratched, Heather Campbell as Nurse Flynn, Dave Kirkham as Turkle, Gretchen Mach as Candy Starr and Iseult Champion as Sandra.
