Melbourne Fringe: Boys Boys Boys

Does Nico sleep with the guys she does for the sex or for the t-shirts she takes home in the morning?

Opening nights can be a bit like first dates or first hook-ups. Awkward at first, but if you’ve got cool stories to tell or you can relax into it, you can make it feel like you’ve known each other for a while. In Boys Boys Boys, Nico tells some cool stories – about chip guy, about singing ‘My Body Is A Wonderland’ in the pauses during making out. And about the t-shirts she’s collected along the way.

The songs she chooses range from soulful to wacky and she’s got the voice to pull that off. There’s some tension in her stories about love versus pleasure, but overall it feels a bit unfocused. In some moments, she’s Amy Winehouse. In others, she’s Fran Fine. And wouldn’t you want to go on that date, whether or not you get a t-shirt in the end?
