It was announced to day that tickets for the final weeks of Annie the musical are now on sale.

Starring Anthony Warlow, Nancye Hayes, Todd McKenney, Chloe Dallimore, Julie Goodwin and Alan Jones as President Roosevelt, Annie opened at the Lyric Theatre, The Star on January 5 (see review here), and will play its last performance in Sydney on Sunday March 25, before transferring to Brisbane.

Despite some initial drama with the poor pooch who played Annie pup Sandy, Producer John Frost is thrilled with the production

Annie has always been a firm favourite of mine, and I’m so glad Sydney has taken this production to its heart. Over 100,000 tickets have been sold, and audiences of all ages are loving the show. The Brisbane and Melbourne seasons are selling very strongly as well. Australians are hungry for good quality entertainment and Annie delivers this in spades.”

NSW Minister for Tourism, Major Events, and the Arts, George Souris, congratulated the producers of Annie on the show’s successful Sydney premiere and positive reception by enthusiastic audiences.

Souris says that Sydney’s “re-emergence as the musicals capital of Australia” is directly assisting the economic growth of the state.

“Destination NSW estimates that the direct economic impact from internationally renowned musicals is around $3 million per month in new money for the State or close to $20 million over a 6 month run,” Mr Souris said.

The cast of Annie can be seen performing tonight at Hats Off! for Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS at the Seymour Centre, Sydney alongside the Love Never Dies company, Amanda Harrison, Amy Housewine, Jack Chambers, Paul Capsis, Rachael Beck and Michael Falzon.

  • So George Souris think that SYDNEY is once again the musical capital of Australia, WOW, thats an achievement, Melbourne does things quitly, world premieres like MOONSHADOWS, KING KONG, THE WAGNER RING CYCLE, THE WAR HORSE (play), all blockbusters and not to mention major SPORTING EVENTS, like motor cycle grand prix, F1 grand prix, the australian tennis open (GRAND SLAM) etc etc, so you see, Melbourne has its own MAJOR EVENTS!!!!!.
