Breaking: Anastasia to come to Australia!

Have you heard? There’s breaking news from St. Petersburg! (Well, the news actually comes from Broadway… But why would I waste the opportunity to use such a perfect lyrical reference?)

Broadway.com and Playbill.com last night reported that the producers of Anastasia on Broadway are planning to stage the show around the world, with one production to hit Australian shores. AussieTheatre has had an official response from Anastasia’s Broadway publicity team, and we can officially confirm the reports! A timeline will be announced in the near future, with other productions planned for Germany, Spain, Russia, Japan and China, to name just a few.

That’s all we know at the moment, but AussieTheatre.com will update our readers as more news comes to light.

The following paragraph is taken from Anastasia’s official website:

Inspired by the beloved films, the romantic and adventure-filled new musical Anastasia comes to Broadway. From the Tony Award®-winning creators of the Broadway classic Ragtime, this dazzling show transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family. Anastasia features a book by celebrated playwright Terrence McNally and a lush, new score by Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics).

The Broadway production of Anastasia stars Australia’s own Caroline O’Connor as Countess Lily Malevsky-Malevitch.

  • I will be there on opening night in Melbourne!
I listen to the Anastasia movie soundtrack a number of times a year and I played At the Beginning on piano at my friends’ wedding 🙂

  • Saw this twice in New York. Can’t wait to see it again here. Is there any update on when it will be coming?
