Move over Sydney, the Helpmann Awards are heading to Melbourne!

Lucy Maunder nominated for Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for Mrs Bucket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

For the first time ever, Arts Centre Melbourne, Victoria’s home of the performing arts, will host the 19th annual Helpmann Awards over two nights on 14 and 15 July 2019.

Nominations for the 19th Annual Helpmann Awards were revealed at simultaneous events in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, recognising distinguished achievement and excellence in Australia’s live performance sectors. The 42 Helpmann Award categories feature awards for excellence in musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, opera and classical music, theatre, ballet, dance and physical theatre, presentations for children and young people, regional touring and cabaret.

In 2019, Helpmann Awards Act I will take place on Sunday July 14, hosted by Robyn Archer AO in an exclusive industry-only event. This special evening will recognise artistic excellence and achievements on stage as well as the creative and technical geniuses behind the scenes.

Helpmann Awards Act II will be a black-tie gala event on Monday 15 July, saluting artistic excellence and achievement on Australian stages over the past year. Hosted by comedian, writer and actor Susie Youssef and actor, writer and director Mitchell Butel, the event’s special guest presenters will include Kate Miller-Heidke, Keir Nuttall, Paul Kelly AO, Greta Bradman and James Egglestone. Once again, the Helpmann Awards Orchestra will be led by exceptional musical director Vanessa Scammell.

Matt Edwards

Matt is a past owner of AussieTheatre, working as digital director from 2011 to 2019. He is also a performer, most recently appeared in the Australian tour of Mamma Mia! and previously in the Australian/NZ tour of CATS and Enda Markey's acclaimed production of Blood Brothers. As well as performing Matt keeps himself busy in the digital side of the arts working with web design agency Emptyhead Digital
