From sizzling hot to frozen QPAC summer forecast

From Christmas favourites, seductive cabaret and blockbuster musicals to ‘urban’ circus, music legends, family shows and more, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is the place to be for the best in live entertainment this summer.

FESTIVE TRADITIONS

Christmas is all wrapped up at the Centre with ever-popular festive favourites on offer including the return of shake & stir theatre co’s acclaimed adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (2 to 24 December 2021), The TEN Tenors Home For Christmas (10 December 2021), QPAC’s 37th Spirit of Christmas (17 and 18 December 2021), starring musical theatre leading ladies Lucy Maunder and Amy Lehpamer, and Queensland Ballet’s enchanting production of The Nutcracker (16 to 23 December 2021).

AUSTRALIAN MUSIC FAVOURITES HIT THE STAGE

A line-up of acclaimed music stars from all genres is set to light up QPAC’s stages this summer.

Popular star of stage and screen and award-winning creative talent for major Broadway shows, Eddie Perfect gives audiences a rare glimpse into his recent life and career in Eddie Perfect – Introspective (21 December 2021). Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Eddie talk about his experiences living in Manhattan and share some of the songs that took him from Brunswick to New York and back again, accompanied by violin and cello.

Continuing the Broadway theme Defying Gravity will see three of Australia’s leading stars of the stage – Caroline O’Connor, Amy Lehpamer and Naomi Price – perform some of the greatest musical theatre songs of all time accompanied by a 10-piece band and featuring Luke Kennedy as special guest artist on 8 January 2022.

Revered Australian singer songwriter and guitarist Russell Morris will rock QPAC solo for the first time ever in The Real Thing on 15 January 2022.

Repeatedly topping Australian and international music charts throughout the 60s and 70s, Russell will share stories and insights about the creation of some of his most iconic songs of the era – from The Real Thing and Sweet Sweet Love to Wings of an Eagle – before performing a 70-minute set live on stage.

The stars keep coming as one of Australia’s most loved theatre icons, Anthony Warlow takes to the stage in a concert celebrating a decades-long internationally acclaimed career for An Evening with Anthony Warlow on 28 and 29 January 2022.

Accompanied by Queensland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vanessa Scammell, Anthony will salute his time on Broadway with songs from hit musicals and from the era of Nelson Riddle classic swing. He will be joined by special guest Amanda Lea La Vergne, a Broadway star in her own right known for her performances in Annie, The People in the Picture, Grease and Bring It On.

HIGH ADRENALINE THEATRE

If you are looking for high energy and jaw dropping action this summer 360 ALLSTARS is just the ticket for the whole gang.

A phenomenal physical performance exploring all forms of rotation, 360 ALLSTARS connects the street with the elite – world champion and world record-holding artists and athletes – to deliver a supercharged urban circus. BMX, basketball, breakdancing, beatboxing, acrobatics and drumming unite to showcase the extraordinary artistry that emerges from street culture, performing in QPAC’s Playhouse from 5 to 16 January 2022.

BLOCKBUSTER MUSICALS

QPAC’s first musical in 2022, the ravishing An American in Paris will make its Australian premiere in the Lyric Theatre from 8 to 30 January 2022.

This production will star Broadway and West End leads Robbie Fairchild as the American GI Jerry Mulligan and Leanne Cope as the young Parisian dancer Lise. It also features two of The Australian Ballet’s leading lights, Cameron Holmes and Dimity Azoury who will alternate in the lead roles, supported by an outstanding Australian cast and ensemble drawn from the worlds of ballet and musical theatre.

Hailed as a tour de force for its inventive choreography by Christopher Wheeldon, the four-time Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical brings the enchantment and magic of Paris alive on stage with popular songs by George and Ira Gershwin.

In February, the forecast is ice and snow as Disney’s new hit musical Frozen opens its much-anticipated Queensland premiere season in QPAC’s Lyric Theatre from 10 February 2022.

From the producers of Aladdin, The Lion King and Mary Poppins, the QPAC season of this spectacular production follows successful seasons in Sydney and Melbourne. Adapted from the Oscar-winning film, Frozen is an inspiring tale of sisterhood and true love, that comes to life with gorgeous sets and costumes as well as sensational special effects.

The cast features Queensland’s own Courtney Monsma as Anna, Jemma Rix in the role of Elsa, Matt Lee as Olaf, Thomas McGuane as Hans, Sean Sinclair as Kristoff, Aljin Abella as Weselton and sharing the role of Sven, Jonathan MacMillan and Lochie McIntyre.

FOR YOUNGEST AUDIENCES

Little ones and their families are invited to join the enchanting adventure of Little and Big Nutbrown Hare as they discover the magic and colour of the seasons, in a dazzling new stage adaptation of Sam McBratney’s beloved Guess How Much I Love You books.

This playful story of love and nature brought to life by CDP Kids unfolds on stage with beautiful puppetry, music and laughter for children aged three years and up. Catch the Queensland premiere season of Guess How Much I Love You in QPAC’s Playhouse from 5 to 9 January 2022.

CABARET WITH AN EDGE

After smashing the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Fringe World Perth, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Melt Festival Brisbane this year, Reuben Kaye, star of The Butch is Back, will return to Brisbane with his acclaimed adults-only cabaret variety show The Kaye Hole in the Cremorne Theatre from 6 January to 12 February 2022.

This virtuosic queer, messy and award-winning critically acclaimed show features Kaye as host comedian and cabaret star alongside his hand-picked line-up of thrilling guest artists including cabaret chanteuse Tina Del Twist, dance and fire artist Jacqueline Furey, aerialist and contortionist Ashleigh Roper, pole dancer Charlie Love, beat box artist Hope One and drag artists and dancers Luna Thicc and the THICC shake crew.

From storytelling, music and dance to acrobatics, beatboxing and puppetry, QPAC will be the hottest and coolest place to be this summer – with something for all ages and tastes. For more information and to purchase tickets go to qpac.com.au or phone 136-246.
