Hamilton’s first performance in Sydney tonight!

Hamilton will have its first public performance tonight at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney as the company prepares for the official premiere on March 27.

Ahead of tonight’s performance Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres and Minister for the Public Service and Employee Relations, Aboriginal Affairs and the Arts Don Harwin joined the US Producer of Hamilton Jeffrey Seller to mark the occasion.

Hamilton’s original US producer Jeffrey Seller – in Sydney for the premiere – said he was thrilled that the Harbour City could return the show to the public sphere.

“This is a momentous occasion, and one made all the more significant by the fact that this is the only production of Hamilton to be playing in the world right now. Sydney has become a beacon of hope for the rest of the theatre community and I’m immensely proud of this opportunity.

I’d like to thank the Premier and the NSW Government for providing that guiding light and enabling this incredibly talented company to tell this story, at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney from tonight.” Mr. Seller said.

NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said it was a huge moment for the Harbour City.

It’s the only place on the planet where people can come and see Hamilton live on the stage – so book your ticket, go to Sydney, stay overnight, make a playcation out of it and really enjoy what is the greatest city in the world,” NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said.

The Australian company led by Jason Arrow as Alexander Hamilton, Chloé Zuel as Eliza Hamilton, Lyndon Watts as Aaron Burr, Akina Edmonds as Angelica Schuyler, Matu Ngaropo as George Washington, Victory Ndukwe as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Shaka Cook as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, Marty Alix as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, Elandrah Eramiha as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds and Brent Hill as King George III.

They are joined by Kirrah Amosa, Daniel Assetta, Kyla Bartholomeusz, Isaac Bradley, Christopher Campbell, Olivia Carniato, Luca Dinardo, Keanu Gonzalez, Winston Hillyer, Jimmie “J.J.” Jeter, Julian Kuo, Iosefa Laga’aia, Stefan Lagoulis, Ashton Lash, Loredo Malcolm, Jayme Jo Massoud, James Maxfield, Callan Purcell, Zelia Rose, Tainga Savage,Jas Smith-Sua, Tigist Strode, Kim Taylor, Romina Villafranca and Zachary Webstercompleting the Australian company of 35 performers.

Hamilton premiered on Broadway in August 2015 to wide critical and audience acclaim. The Show has won Tony®, Grammy® and Olivier Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre – a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics and education.

With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestration by Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography.

The Hamilton creative team previously collaborated on the 2008 Tony Award-winning Best Musical In the Heights. Scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Nevin Steinberg, hair and wig design by Charles G. LaPoint.

A filmed version of the original Broadway cast was released on Disney+ on 3 July 2020.

The Australian production of Hamilton is produced by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman, The Public Theater and Michael Cassel.

The Australian premiere of Hamilton is is supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.
