In a recent article by the New York Times it has been speculated that Love Never Dies will be filmed in Melbourne and sold on DVD.

Lloyd Webber also mentions in that article that Love Never Dies may not make it to Broadway after all. NY Times has quotes the Lord Lloyd Webber as saying:

“I think there are a lot of people who would love to see it [Love Never Dies] go there, but I think that we’re all realistic, and I think with the baggage that it’s got, it might be better to just let it be discovered”.

The show opened in London to mixed reviews and is due to close on the West End on August 27 this year. The Melbourne production at the Regent Theatre is a completely revised work, with a new design, new direction and various script, lyric and musical alterations. Starring Ben Lewis as the Phantom, Anna O’Byrne as Christine Daae and directed by Simon Phillips (Priscilla), the show was nominated for 10 Helpmann Awards including Best Actor in a Musical, Best Direction and Best Musical.

Producer of the Australian production, Tim McFarlane (Really Useful Company, Asia Pacific) has already told the media that

“This is the production [of Love Never Dies] which Andrew wants me to take to the rest of the world”.

If not Broadway, then where? Will we be seeing an Asian Touring production of Love Never Dies, following in the footsteps of the recent Phantom and Cats tours?
