Melbourne’s shortest and sexiest cabaret festival returns to Chapel Off Chapel under the artistic direction of Emma Clair Ford.  After the resounding success of the 2011 season, Emma is back for another year, featuring up to forty brand new, innovative acts from Australia’s freshest cabaret talent, for two weeks from October 26th to November 6th. Vaudeville, Burlesque, Comedy, Storytelling, Cabaret Noir – what ever your inclination, Short+Sweet Cabaret is bound to have something for you.Following quickly behind is the well established Short and Sweet Theatre season running from November 2nd to 12th. Experimental. Subversive. Dangerous. Sensual. Poetic. Funny. Disturbing. Transforming. Brilliant. Visual. Physical. Plays that catapult the next vanguard of Melbourne’s directors, actors, writers and independent theatre companies right in your face – ten minutes at a time.Under the new Artistic Direction of international award-winning theatre-maker & playwright Anthony Crowley – the 2011 Melbourne Festival will deliver up to forty new theatre works over two exhilarating weeks from November 2 to 12.Short+Sweet aims to provide established and emerging artists with a professional platform to create and present their work. MEDIA RELEASE – For immediate release Mon 3 October 2011??SHORT+SWEET Theatre Festival, running from 31 October to 12 November 2011 is longer and juicier this year.In its 3rd successful year in Queensland SHORT+SWEET is now extending a creative arm to the Gold Coast. In 2011 the SHORT+SWEET Theatre Festival Brisbane+Gold Coast will host 30 writers, 20 directors, 12 Independent Theatre Companies and 100 actors at the Judith Wright Centre in Brisbane and the Arts Centre Gold Coast in Surfers Paradise.Festival Director Sean Dennehy says “this is just the start, we have great creative communities south (Gold Coast), north (Sunshine Coast) and west (Toowoomba) of Brisbane and SHORT+SWEET is the type of Festival to bring them all together in the future”.The Gold Coast, for the first time, will host 10 plays over 3 days, while Brisbane will host 20 plays and then the Gala Final. At least 3 of the plays in the Gala Final will be from the Gold Coast. At current ticket prices that’s under $3 per play!Now in its tenth year SHORT+SWEET is the world’s largest 10-minute play festival and this year presented its 1000th new Australian work making it the largest producer of Australian theatre.Audiences are guaranteed 10 plays a night and no play will last more than 10 minutes or less; with attention spans shrinking this is great news – everyone loves a short night at the theatre! They also get the chance to be part of the judging process.The SHORT+SWEET franchise (since 2001 – as it started out in the late 90’s as the ‘biggest little play festival’) has expanded throughout Australia in recent years and now includes festivals in Sydney, Canberra, Central NSW, Brisbane, Melbourne, Rockhampton and Newcastle.
