We already knew that Anthony Warlow is slated to play Tevye in Tim Lawson’s new production of Fiddler on the Roof, but the big names don’t stop there. This week it was announced that Sigrid Thornton, Lior, and Mark Mitchell will also join the cast.
Sigrid Thornton just played Judy Garland in the mini-series Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door, and is an accomplished stage and screen actor, best known for Sea Change, A Streetcar Named Desire, and A Little Night Music – in which she appeared with Anthony Warlow.
ARIA award winning Lior is set to play Motel. You may remember his song “This Old Love” which helped launch his successful touring and recording career.
Mark Mitchell, AKA Con the Fruiterer, will play butcher Lazar Wolf. He is currently starring in The Ex PM on ABC.
Producer Tim Lawson said of the impressive line-up, “To have cast Anthony in the title role, I thought the dream was complete, but to also have the privilege to work with Sigrid Thornton, arguably one of the country’s finest actors alongside the incredible comic forces of Mark and Nikki whilst welcoming Lior to the world of musical theatre is as much a treat for us as it promises to be for Melbourne and Sydney audiences.”
Fiddler on the Roof will open at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre on December 29th and will be followed by a Sydney season at the Capitol Theatre from March 24th 2016.
