Star duo to take Dusty tuner to the suburbs

The musical Dusty is back – though not in its original format.

The show’s stars – Tamsin Carroll and Deni Hines – are set to take the tuner about Dusty Springfield’s life on a club tour.

It is a far cry from the original plans for the musical, which was slated for international productions after it played in Sydney back in 2006.

The two hour concert will feature Carroll and Hines in authentic 60’s costumes and set design. The duo will perform duets and solos throughout the show backed by a seven piece band.

It is expected to be a major hit with suburban audiences, who were the core target of the original production of the musical.

Dusty grossed ofer $20 million at the box office and played to close to 400,000 people across 253 shows.

Tamsin Carroll took out Best Female Actor in a Musical for her work as Dusty in the production, but the show missed the coveted Best Musical gong. It received six 2006 Helpmann nominations.

Having just returned from the West End for a short break after performing in the hit production of Oliver, Carroll said she jumped at the chance to get together with Hines and recapture the magic of the musical.

“I can’t wait to do the tour and get back into some Dusty,” she said.

“Deni and I had such a great time and already the fun has begun in rehearsals, its going to be fantastic.”

Hines has just returned from charity work in Kenya and Papua New Guinea and has commenced work on a new album.

“I’ve been bugging the producers of the musical to bring the production back on stage, so when Tamsin was up for the idea, I said, let’s go girlfriend and have some fun,” she said.

Multi Award winning theatrical artist Tamsin Carroll has performed in over 26 productions including Oliver, The Rocky Horror Show, Company, Dusty, Broadway Showstoppers, Grease, Shout, Hair, Evita plus more and is the recipient of no less than five marquee awards including Helpmanns, Mos and Greenroom Awards.

Carroll has also appeared in 11 Television productions including All Saints and Heartbreak High, two feature films Ms Understanding andHoly Smoke, the latter directed by the legendary Jane Campion.

Deni Hines is without doubt considered one of Australia’s foremost entertainers.  From radio, chart and hit singles and albums, to lead roles in musicals (Dusty, Jesus Christ Superstar, Big River); television and film (Mao’s Last Dancer), Deni has grown up in front of audiences from an enthusiastic young performer with The Rockmelons to a mature, sophisticated all round entertainer spanning two decades amassing a diverse array of musical styles from pop, blues, soul, jazz, reggae and all in the between.
