THE SOUND OF MUSIC to stream this weekend

In a thrilling turn of events, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Shows Must Go On channel is back!

Although Cats was the last of ALW’s shows to be broadcast on the YouTube channel, this weekend the NBC The Sound Of Music Live! will be streamed from Saturday morning for 48 hours only.

The much-loved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical follows a young Maria, who takes the job as a governess for the Von Trapp family while she decides whether or not to become a nun. The show is based on a real family, and its score contains some of music theatre’s most popular standards, including “Do Re Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and the titular song, “The Sound of Music.”

The live special was originally broadcast in 2013, and stars Carrie Underwood as Maria and Stephen Moyer as Captain Von Trapp. The remaining cast include Broadway stars like Audra McDonald, Christian Borle, Laura Benanti, Michael Park, and Sophia Anne Caruso.

Each broadcast has raised funds for The Actors Fund to support those affected by the current COVID-19 crisis. AussieTheatre will post a link to the stream once available.

  • The show must go on – Sound of Music https://www.aussietheatre.com.au/news/the-sound-of-music-to-stream-this-weekend . This link was qsent to me n is also circulating throughout Malaysia right now telling people it’s available for viewing this weekend. But when we click on it, it says ‘this video is not available’. What a disappointment? It’s our Muslim new year holidays and we’re staying at home due to Vovid19! In future I’d suggest you indicate the countries it’s available for viewing. Thank you.

Hi Winnie, since we are an Australian website, we posted this to share with our readers as it is available for us to view here. It seems like there has been an issue with the rights distribution in Asia that has been mentioned on the YouTube video, which will be why it is unavailable for you to watch.
