THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MUSIC takes a nostalgic spin on the ultimate Rom-Com mix tape

More than ever, what the world needs now is love and The Little Red Company delivers with the feel-good music event of the year There’s Something About Music at Brisbane Powerhouse from 24 – 27 February.

Fall in love with your favourite films all over again with this homage to cinematic rom-coms, breathing new life into those heartstring-plucking soundtracks that defined the genre.

If you’ve been wishin’ and hopin’ to hear your favourite songs from films such as There’s Something About Mary, Notting Hill, My Best Friend’s Wedding, 10 Things I Hate About You, Pretty Woman, Sleepless in Seattle and When Harry Met Sally, you’re in luck.

A dream cast of Australian stage and screen sweethearts, backed by a swoon-worthy live band, will bring this epic mixtape to life in a nostalgic and uplifting premiere season.

Co-creator Naomi Price (Christmas Actually, Sweet Charity) helms There’s Something About Music with a cast ripped straight from your favourite rom-coms: real-life partner Luke Kennedy (The Voice Australia, Swing on This), best friend Lucy Maunder (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda) and boy-next-door Mat Verevis (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, RENT). Befitting of the A-List ensemble cast, Queensland fashion icon Laura Churchill (Brisbane Fashion Month) will style the red carpet extravaganza. Leading lady Naomi Price said There’s Something About Music was pure escapism.

Price said:

After the year we’ve had, I can’t wait for audiences to share some of our favourite rom-com hits and get swept away by the incredible voices of my best friends, as we take on everyone from Burt Bacharach to Shirley Bassey, and Aerosmith to Elvis Costello.

Music is so integral to storytelling and a truly great soundtrack can take you from just watching a film to becoming deeply invested in the characters and their stories. We all felt Whitney’s heartbreak in The Bodyguard’s I Will Always Love You, delighted and cringed at Bridget Jones’s All By Myself and fell in love with Heath Ledger’s iconic serenade of Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You in 10 Things I Hate About You.

Joining the quartet of crooners on stage is a live band featuring Mik Easterman (Lady Beatle), Scott French (Lady Beatle), Jason McGregor (The IsoLate Late Show), Micheal Manikus (Christmas Actually) and OJ Newcomb (Christmas Actually).

“There’s Something About Music features so many phenomenal artists and musical genres, so it’s a delight to bring together this beautiful combination of different voices and instrumentalists,” Price said. “It’s a giant love-fest at a time when the world needs it most. So gather your girlfriends, boyfriends, old friends, best friends, gal pals and sisters, and join us for this whimsical, wistful and wonderful walk down memory lane.”

There’s Something About Music plays Powerhouse Theatre at Brisbane Powerhouse from 24 – 27 February.
