Trevor Ashley – Australian music theatre, cabaret and drag performer – will be filming a newly commissioned 12 part pilot series in June this year.

The Very Trevor Ashley Show has been commissioned by SBS Australia and will be produced by Hatch Entertainment, a production house which was born in a ‘changing media landscape’, according to their website. It is understood that the programme will be a one hour variety show.

Ashley has long been dubbed ‘the busiest man in showbusiness’, with an incredible string of performance credits to his name. Audiences will have enjoyed his performances over the years as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray, Natalie Portly in Fat Swan and Miss Understanding in the original cast of Priscilla. Befitting the busiest man in the biz, Ashely will move from his pilot filming into rehearsals for The Producers where he will be appearing as Franz Liebkind for The Production Company in Melbourne.

Having emerged onto the Australian cabaret scene in 1998 with a very well received performance at the Sydney cabaret convention, Ashley went on to tour a string of smash-hit self devised shows including Liza On An E, I’m Every Woman and the recent success story Diamonds are For Trevor, which received critical acclaim for its season at the State Theatre, Sydney.
