You & I, confirms exclusive season at the 2020 Midsumma Festival

Proudly supported by Gasworks Arts Park, Melbourne’s premier Southside Arts Hub, international award-winning company Casus Circus bring their much anticipated and exclusive season, You & I, to the 2020 Midsumma Festival.

A veritable feast of arts experiences for young and old alike, Gasworks Arts Park has 13 events running throughout the 2020 Festival including exhibitions, musicals, theatre, circus, kids shows, cabaret, comedy, readings of new Australian works, and an award showcase supporting contemporary Queer playwrights. You & I will headline and launch this superb line-up from the 22nd of January, 2019.

An empowering hour of skill using high-level acrobatics, magical trapeze, and dance, You & I  is a celebration of identity and the loving relationship between two men. Casus Circus’ most daring and intimate work-to-date, You & I is an unashamedly authentic journey revealing a fresh narrative where gay stories are not consumed by tragedy but filled with conviction and acceptance.

“A major catalyst for creating You & I was the desire to tell a story of two men in love, without the usual baggage.”, explains co-Director and Performer Jesse Scott.

“Lachlan and I both saw gay characters in most mainstream movies or television representations being full of trauma and heartache. This show is full of our truth and love. You & I is an action-packed show complete with circus, dance and honesty. We’ve created a show that lets you forget the fact it’s about two men in love, and simply focus on two people in love.”

A recognised leader in contemporary circus, Casus Circus performances are rich in human connection, cultural diversity and precise, intelligent choreography. Renowned for their aesthetic, they have toured nationally and internationally with their works and have won numerous awards and accolades. Originating in Brisbane through co-founders Jesse Scott, Lachlan McAulay, and Natano Fa’anana, You & I will be their Midsumma Festival debut season, not to be missed!

This performance is proudly supported by Sofitel Melbourne on Collins and The Gasworks Foundation Patrons Fund.
