Your Sunday Afternoon Zen: Buyi Zama and “The Circle of Life”

The Lion King has been a smash hit production with Australian audiences. It did extremely well in its first run, and now it’s in its second, comfortably touring around Australia and settling into its cities. In a few weeks, the production will wrap up in Melbourne and pack up before heading over to Perth for its WA season.

One of the great things about the show is Buyi Zama’s Rafiki. She’s played the role all over the world – you can hear her on the live South African cast recording of the show – and if you’ve ever heard her sing or seen her in the part, you’ll understand exactly why she’s in such hot demand.

This afternoon, let’s throw it back to a performance of “The Circle of Life,” led by Zama, that lit up Sunrise a couple of years ago. Whether you caught it at the time or you’re new to it now, I think you’ll enjoy the couple of minutes you can spend with Zama doing something she is world-renowned for doing.

Happy Sunday.
