True West 2012 Submissions Now Open

True West TheatreFollowing the success of the first season of new works for True West Theatre in 2011, Riverside Productions in Parramatta have announced that submissions for the 2012 True West Theatre season are now open. Three projects will be selected from this year’s submissions, and they will be supported by True West’s production, marketing, and financial package for a two-week presentation in Rafferty’s Theatre, Riverside’s 90-seat black box studio.

True West Theatre is a season of independent theatre works designed to give a voice to Sydney’s West, and encourages all kinds of performance: new Australian plays, drama and comedy, multimedia and hybrid theatre, devised performance, music theatre, physical theatre that is text-based, and culturally specific works.

All projects must have relevance to the Western area of Sydney, whether through the themes contained in the work, relevance to cultural groups represented in Sydney’s west, through the work having been devised or developed in the area, or through the core artists being based in, or collaborating with, western based artists.

“We are looking for work that that breaks through the stereotypical perceptions of life in Sydney’s West; ideas that are imaginative, innovative, and entertaining, and backed by artists with professional flair,” said Producer of Riverside Productions Camilla Rountree.
