Drew Fairley and Kate Smith (Bangers and Mash, The No Chance in Hell Hotel) are set to return to Sydney’s Darlinghurst Theatre with their new comedy The Unspeakable Itch from Wednesday 8 June.

It’s the story of Matt and Bec, who have been married for seven years. And so what if Matt occasionally sleeps in the car and Bec has trouble remembering his name? It’s just a phase – that unspeakable itch. They’ll be fine once they get a bank loan, a timber deck and a heated infinity pool. And if they don’t get that loan? Well, they’ll do what any other normal Australian couple would do: have a nervous breakdown. And sing about it.

Co-Writer Drew Fairley says that “since we started working together in 2003 Kate Smith and I are like some crazy married theatre couple. She knows my favourite dish and I know her shoe size. So we wanted to look at how relationships keep going after the confetti has turned to dust.

“The GFC suggests that we have been buying our way to happiness. Are we really looking for a soul connection with each other through our credit cards?… There’s gotta be some comedy in that.”

The Unspeakable Itch will premiere at Darlinghurst Theatre from 8 June – 8 July. For more information and bookings visit wwww.darlinghursttheatre.com
