Frozen the Musical is heading to Australia in 2020

Disney Theatricals announced today that the hit musical Frozen will have its premiere Australian season at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney from July 2020.

Disney has previously enjoyed great success with live musicals in Australia, producing tours of The Lion King, Mary Poppins and more recently Aladdin, which is currently in Auckland with an Adelaide season scheduled later in 2019.

Based on the 2013 animated film starring Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, Frozen features music and lyrics by the creators of the film score Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Up Here, Winnie the Pooh, In Transit) and EGOT-winner Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon, Up Here) and a book by Jennifer Lee (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph), the film’s screenwriter and director (with Chris Buck).

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said “Frozen is one of the most highly acclaimed and sought after musicals currently in production. It is a global cultural sensation, and we are thrilled to have secured the musical adaption for Sydney. It’s yet another example of this Government’s commitment to building a world-class calendar of events for NSW.”

Frozen opened on Broadway on March 22, 2018 and has since set (and subsequently broken!) four St. James Theatre house records, placing in the top 10 best-selling shows every week. The two act stage work expands upon and deepens its indelible plot and themes through new songs and story material from the film’s creators. In fact, this new stage production features more than twice as much music as the film. Like the Disney Theatrical Broadway musicals that have come before it, it is a full evening of theatre running over two hours.

  • Hi there, I would like to know when the auditions are being held for the Sydney show? I am Emily Griffiths, a 14 year old girl attending Australian Preforming Arts Grammar School. I aspire to be an actress in the future and believe this would be a great start as the stage is where I see myself. I am also in the preforming level at Australian Girls Choir and love being on stage and entertaining people.
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Regards Emily.

  • I would love to know when and where auditions will be held for this production! My name is Cheyenne Omanand, I’ve been singing throughout all my high school years and have just graduated year 12 with a Peter Goers Award for the arts. Last year I was also a part of Pelican Productions return season of Bring It On the Musical which was an amazing experience. As a 15 year old I took on a job as Anna for children’s princess parties where I needed to sing dance and act as the character on the spot without any cheat sheets to help me. This experience heavily attached me to the Frozen film and Broadway Musical. Being a part of this production would be a dream come true.
I’m excited to hear back from you!! Thankyou for taking the time to read this. – Cheyenne
