Marchand Quits

Nick Marchand has quit as Artistic Director of the Griffin Theatre Company.

He has been in the role for around three and a half years.

“It has been a hard decision to step down,” Marchand said.

“That said, my hope was to open up playwriting and directorial diversity at the Company, and in four seasons we-ve presented an amazing amount of new writing, with 37 new works from 33 different playwrights and 25 different directors. Even for a theatre priding itself on offering new opportunities, it is an incredibly satisfying result for the team.”

A replacement is yet to be named.

Meanwhile, as Love Me Tender heads into its final week, a new star has been born. Effie the lamb has joined the cast for the last week of this terrific play. But that is not to say that Ted the lamb won’t be sorely missed, having made quite an impression on the Sydney theatre going public and regularly bleating his welcome to the audience as he took to the stage.

Perhaps his finest hour was summed up by our Production Manager exclaiming, ‘uh-oh, I think the lamb just peed on Arky, it must have stage-fright’. Unfortunately, lambs grow up into well, sheep, so Ted had to make way for something cuter.

There is still a chance to see Belinda McClory, Colin Moody, Kris McQuade, Arky Michael and Luke Hewitt support Effie the lamb until April 11.
