AnnieIt began with over 1000 young girls, all poised ready to belt out that well known tune “Tomorrow”….   The powers that be from The Gordon Frost organisation have begun their children’s audition series for the Sydney production of Annie, set to open in December this year. Starring Anthony Warlow, Nancye Hayes, Chloe Dallimore and Todd McKenney, the show’s casting will not be complete until the producers find three young girls to share the coveted title role. From the initial 1000 young hopefuls, call backs for 170 lucky girls were arranged last Sunday at Brent Street Studios in Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter, but the process is not even close to complete.  “The audition process is still continuing to make sure we find the right Annies and orphans for the show. There will be three different casts of children”, a spokesperson has told AussieTheatre.com.  Each cast will consist of one Annie and seven orphans, making a total of 24 girls needed for the Sydney show. The process will be repeated when Annie moves to Brisbane and again when it travels to Melbourne, giving young girls across Australia a chance to shine in this role of a lifetime.  John Frost, producer of feel-good family musical said some of the most famous actresses in Hollywood began their careers playing the role of Annie.
“Sarah Jessica Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alyssa Milano all played her early in their careers,” Frost said.
“It’s certainly a great training ground for young actresses. It will give them a real taste of what it’s like in grown-up town.”  Annie previews at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre from December 29 this year, with an official opening set for January 5 2012
