Your Sunday Afternoon Zen: Tyran Parke sings “Why” from Tick, Tick… Boom

Tyran Parke is a performer and director. He has a unique vulnerability to his performance that translates in some really appealing ways, like in wry regret or tentative hope, his buttery vocal tone ensuring that we’re always in safe hands when he steps on stage. He was recently seen in LOVEBiTES at the Hayes Theatre.

In 2011, Parke starred in a small run of Jonathan Larsen’s other musical, Tick, Tick, Boom! at the Parade Playhouse in NIDA. Directed by Jay James-Moody, and co-starring Justin Stewart and Melle Stewart.

As part of his 2012 cabaret A Light in the Dark, Parke reprised the role for a quiet and lovely moment, singing “Why.” I noted at the time that Parke’s “emotional connection to Larson and this music theatre world informs his performance with a real sense of honesty.”

Luckily for us, that moment lives on via YouTube. Here’s your Sunday, all taken care of.
